rihanna: te amo!

June 18, 2010

I am a little late blogging about this, but it’s not my fault. It was hard to find on a video site that works with WordPress. Youtube is ideal, but new videos are always getting removed from YouTube until *whoever* is ready to officially put the video up. Whatever, whatever, blah. Anyway, the video’s finally up on her YouTube channel. Yay.

Rihanna impressed me again with this video. I was not feeling her after that hot mess Rockstar 101 video, because it was just a black and white video of her posing and being satanic, trying to pass it off as being a ‘rockstar’. Te Amo is still her posing, but it has beautiful imagery so I forgive her. I love the opening shots. The contrast between the fantastical view of the castle from the outside and the brooding, Gothic sensuality seen inside of the castle is beautiful to see. The colors are bold, romantic and saturated with vibrancy. Plus, the lesbian theme of the song done in a very classy manner.

I really like this video. Love the visuals, because they’re full of color and life, but still dark in essence. This video fits nicely in her catalogue, especially with the other videos from this album.

lil boosie indicted for: murder!

June 17, 2010

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie was indicted on a first-degree murder charge by a grand jury Thursday (June 17), stemming from an incident in October that left one man dead.

Two other men, Michael Louding and Adrian Pittman, were also indicted on similar charges, according to Louisiana CBS News affiliate WAFB. The Trill Entertainment rapper and his associates were indicted for multiple drug-possession charges as well.

Police records say Boosie and the two men fired shots into the home of Terry Boyd, then 35. The rapper allegedly was in possession of ecstasy, codeine and marijuana. All three men were charged with conspiracy for their part in the act, police say. A district attorney said the death penalty was not out of the question.

kelis: 4th of july (fireworks)!

June 17, 2010

I love Kelis! Like I said before, she’s ALWAYS so 3008. Lightyears ahead these other girls. Even if her music isn’t always particularly groundbreaking it’s still good and she always put her stamp on it in one way or another. Plus you know her imagery and/or fashion is always going to be on some other world nonsense. Nonsense meaning fierceness. Whether she’s dressed like a wolf who ate an Avatar or like a peacock disguised as a Native American chief, she’s committed and I love it. This video for her song 4th of July (Fireworks) isn’t spectacular, but it’s cool and summery. Nice close-ups and colors, and of course fireworks at the end. She looks great in the couture gowns! Love the song, too. It’s fun! It’s definitely going on my July playlist (get it?).

gabourey sidibe’s mother sings on: america’s got talent!

June 17, 2010

Gabourey Sidibe isn’t the only talent in her family. Her mother Alice Tan Ridley, usually frequents subway stations in NYC to showcase her vocal ability. She recently to decided to choose a classier platform, America’s Got Talent. I personally can’t deal with overdramatic, cunty reality contests like this (just look at the reaction from the judges… they’re doing too much), so I don’t watch the show. However, I am impressed by her soulfulness, stage presence, and vocal ability in this clip. Even if she blows up and becomes famous (a la Susan Boyle), you can tell she still gon’ keep it real. I doubt she’ll throw a cheap lacefront over that bald spot in the middle of her head. And who needs Colgate when you Got Talent? But all shade aside, she was really good. Go ‘head girl! Got me in tears.

queen latifah comments on: her sexuality!

June 17, 2010

When asked about her much questioned sexuality, Queen Latifah had this to say:

“I don’t have to explain anything. I don’t have to confirm anything. Look, I need my time. I need my life. You know, I was looking at something the other day. A magazine with Jennifer Aniston on the cover. That’s a strong woman right there. All of these people in her business-who is she dating? Angie this. Brad that. They come up with so much stuff. That’s a tough situation to be in.

“My situation is small compared to that. But still, I don’t feel like I need to explain. I’m the one living it. You write about it. You go ahead and speculate. I’ll just live it. I don’t feel like I need to explain things to a perfect stranger. The people who matter know. And they love me for Dana. I don’t have to tell Joe Blow. Joe, you worry about who YOU sleeping with.” – Queen Latifah, speaking to Upscale Magazine.

I agree. Nothing about your personal life is anybody’s business unless you CHOOSE to share it with them. She has every right not to comment. By her evading the question all the time, it’s kind of obvious what the answer to the big question is, but really… who cares? We’re not paying her bills, and she’s not paying ours. It really doesn’t matter. It’s fun to gossip about celebrity scandals now and then. I do it (obviously), but I know in the end it doesn’t make a real difference in my life, so I don’t get so wrapped up in knowing every detail about their lives. That said, i respect her for keeping her love life private.

cop punches 17 year old girl: in the face!

June 16, 2010

This upset me so much! I really don’t know what is going on. I read the cop was going to arrest the girl for jaywalking, and then the other girl stepped in and got punched. If that’s the case, the girls shouldn’t have been resisting arrest (even though being arrested for jaywalking is stupid), and the one girl should not have jumped in. BUT, the officer should definitely not have handled those girls like that, and he especially should not have punched the underage girl in the face like she was a grown man who robbed a bank. Crazy. Like I said, I don’t really know exactly what was going on, but it’s just not cool in any regard. What do you think about this? Leave a comment with your opinion. I think both the girls and the officer need to be reprimanded.

greetings from: the sky!

June 11, 2010

Hey Kids!

Guess what I’m doing! Yeah, just chillin on the 21st floor of the Flagship in Atlantic City. This was supposed to be a reunion for me and some of my friends from college, but they all canceled, so I’m here alone. I might have cried and/or slit my wrists, but I got over it. I couldn’t let anything stop me from enjoying my free hotel room for a whole weekend. It’s really nice, and I have it all to myself, except when I invite people over. Speaking of having people over, come visit me.

I have two beds, a fridge, a stove, a sink, a dishwasher, a microwave, a balcony, a big flat screen, everything! I’m taking advantage of this, because I don’t know the next time I’ll have a room to myself. I am excited to have friends come over and just have fun, though. I’m sure they’ll enjoy this view of Brigantine and the ocean as much as I did.

Since my mom has a timeshare here, I know there are some free activities/meal/something that I need to be taking advantage of. I also feel like I should get out and explore the city, but um… I live right here. It’s not like I’m visiting Miami or some place that I’ve never been, and I should go be a tourist. I’d rather be a tourist in this hotel room.

drake feels used by: rihanna!

June 10, 2010

In an upcoming New York Times profile, Drake reveals that all that fun wasn’t innocent puppy kisses and he was really just a pawn for Rihanna’s feminine agency. “She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he told the paper. “I was like, ‘Wow, this feels terrible.'” He put all that terrible feeling into “Fireworks” off his upcoming album Thank Me Later (which drops next Tuesday), where he raps “I could tell it wasn’t love / I just thought you’d f—ed with me” among other bummer lines. Who knew that a fling between two young, talented, attractive people could fail? Love is a battlefield, man.

I didn’t know Drake and Rihanna had a thing! That’s news to me. And speaking of his new album, I enjoyed a few of the songs. Fireworks, the one mentioned in the article, will be on my July playlist.

the early show: summer concert series!

June 10, 2010

Yesterday I took a trip back to the city I called home for the past 9 months, New York! The occasion was The Early Show Summer Concert Series. The artist performing: none other than Christina Aguilera. If you know me, you know this was my third time seeing Ms. Aguilera perform live and you know I was very excited. I never slept Tuesday night and just got on the 4:15 NJ Transit bus at 4:15 am on Wednesday morning. My little sister, cousin, and I got to New York around 7, I think. Since we were there so early, the wasn’t bad at all. Downside was we had to wait until nearly 12 pm to see her perform, so we were in line, tired and hungry.

Look at me striking my Xtina pose!

After about an hour waiting in line, Joan Rivers and her plastic face paid us a random visit! She even threw plastic coins at us. I don’t know why this happened, but it was fierce and so was she.

Around 11 am, we checked in and received our wristbands. We were then escorted into the “arena” if you will. The stage was set up on Fifth Ave, between 58th and 59th, right next to the Apple Store and across from the Plaza Hotel. We had to wait again as the prepped the stage and the equipment. Since I was sleep deprived and hungry, I thought I was gonna pass out, so I kneeled down. Soon enough her dancers appeared, which got me excited. Then XTINA came! She rehearsed a little of Not Myselt Tonight, then disappeared somewhere. I don’t know if it was because of the rain or what. Tease!

Before I passed out again, she came back in a fierce see-through rain jacket (same as the Not Myself Tonight music video). Julie Chen, host of Big Brother, The Early Show, and friend in my head, introduced Christina! I was so excited to see Julie. I forgot her name for a few seconds, but then I remembered and screamed “Julie Chen! Julie Chen! Julie Chen!” like I had tourette’s. She turned and waved to me. I could’ve died then. But I didn’t, because I came to see Xtina.

Christina started off with a teaser of one of her signature songs, Fighter. She then performed current single Not Myself Tonight. She followed that with classics, Genie In A Bottle and What a Girl Wants. I believe the last song she performed was You Lost Me from the new album, and she sounded great!

Overall, I enjoyed myself and was very impressed by her live. It was my third time seeing her live, and the closest I’ve ever been. She definitely saw me and I saw her up close for the first time. I felt like I was dreaming. My love for her as an entertainer and artist grew so much yesterday! I had a great time. It wasn’t live and it will air tomorrow (Friday) at… um, I don’t know the time, just early!

lady gaga: alejandro!

June 8, 2010

Here it is! Gaga stans have their bibs on and they’re ready to go in on a plate of Alejandro. I, however, tried it and gagged.

Just playing. I didn’t gag. The video’s not bad, it just does nothing for me. I think that’s my thing with Lady Gaga. I don’t dislike her. When she has a good song, she has a good song. And interesting visuals. She’s a hard worker. She just does NOTHING for me. Now some may say it’s because I’m a “bitter Christina Aguilera fan” or something, but no. Back before the comparisons, when Gaga first came out with The Fame, I gave her album a chance. I listened and I liked a few songs, but it didn’t move me. Nor did her over the top antics. They just come off as contrived to me, and I can’t connect with that.  As she began to gain popularity, I still didn’t get it. Had nothing to do with Perez Hilton claiming Xtina stole her look. I just don’t get the hype, and I won’t force myself.

Now, on to the video: I don’t get it. I didn’t expect to, because it’s Gaga and her video never have anything to do with anything. I was a little disappointed that there was no incorporation of the tropics, because the song is very tropical. There weren’t even any Latinos in the video. Just pale white people with bowl haircuts. But again, she never really interprets her songs literally, which is her artistic license and I respect that.

I definitely caught some Illuminati references in the beginning, and probably some more that I missed. I thought the guys in stilettos and briefs dancing erotically was a memorable image. She also danced in her underwear, and that’s when I gagged. Like, literally. I get she likes to mesh ugliness with fiercess or whatever, but she’s just ugly and every time I see her in panties or with tape on her vag, I lose three days of my life.

At the end she is lying in bed with strings attached to her coming from above, like a marionette. As the camera zooms in on her face, she turns into a demon or something. I had to give my computer screen a dirty look after that.

The video was so long and confusing, I know I’m leaving out a lot of stuff. Overall, it wasn’t bad, it just didn’t DO anything for me. But that’s my stance on her and her work (usually), and a lot of others feel differently. Tell me what you thought about this video?
