i’m not: dead!

August 8, 2010

In the words of my favorite metaphorical lesbian, “I’m not dead, just floating”… It’s Pink. Look it up.

I’m not dead, and neither this blog. I’ve just been trying to figure out which direction this is going to go. If I’m going to blog, it has to come from my heart and mean something to me. I love pop culture as much as the next Nick, but I don’t want my blog to get lost in being another celeb gossip site. It’s not that important to me.

Being unemployed this summer has given me a lot of time to myself to think and reflect. I’m going through a mental journey, trying to discover and understand myself a little better. My medium lately has been astrology, plus any other spiritual/metaphysical/mystical studies. Normally, I’m a little skeptical of such things, but the things I read about my sign and other people’s signs are so eerily accurate. The more I learn, the more I want to know. And of course, like a true Scorpio, I become obsessed until it’s time to move on to the next phase of my life.

Scorpios are all about feelings, passion, control, mystery, and transformation. I think those traits combined are what make me want to blog. Being so secretive and having such intense emotions is not always a good combination. This is the place that allows me to express myself in a way I can control. I can say as little or as much as I want about anything I find interesting or not interesting.

I ask myself sometimes why I do this? Out of everyone that has a blog, what makes mine any different or any better? I’m not trying to be a Perez Hilton. I’m not trying to act as if my opinion is law. I’m not trying to judge pop culture icons or play God. I want to share with the world what makes me who I am. What I love and hate, and why. Whether or not any of you care, I know that is the only thing that will make my blog 100% unique. More importantly, getting stuff from out of my head and onto this blog helps me understand myself. My head gets a little overcrowded with thoughts and feelings, and blogging is an outlet for me. It took me a while this summer to come to that conclusion and now I can start blogging again.

With that said, Nicks are still for Kids!

cop punches 17 year old girl: in the face!

June 16, 2010

This upset me so much! I really don’t know what is going on. I read the cop was going to arrest the girl for jaywalking, and then the other girl stepped in and got punched. If that’s the case, the girls shouldn’t have been resisting arrest (even though being arrested for jaywalking is stupid), and the one girl should not have jumped in. BUT, the officer should definitely not have handled those girls like that, and he especially should not have punched the underage girl in the face like she was a grown man who robbed a bank. Crazy. Like I said, I don’t really know exactly what was going on, but it’s just not cool in any regard. What do you think about this? Leave a comment with your opinion. I think both the girls and the officer need to be reprimanded.

chace crawford caught with: weed!

June 4, 2010

Chace Crawford from “Gossip Girl” was arrested in Plano, Texas for possession of marijuana … cops confirm to TMZ.

We’re told Crawford has bonded out of jail.

Crawford was arrested just after midnight this morning for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces.  The charge is a misdemeanor.

Chace Crawford and his friend were caught with an unlit joint! He should have lit it and smoked it sooner! Oh, well. I’m not judging. This just makes him seem more human to me, and less like a mannequin. Speaking of mannequins, let’s talk about how much face he is giving in his mugshot. I bet Tyra will put this in the Top Model apartment next cycle as guide on how to correctly and efficiently Smize.

alicia keys: unthinkable (i’m ready)!

May 12, 2010

Unthinkable was my favorite song from Alicia Key‘s (not so spectacular to me) fourth album. The Element of Freedom as an album from an artist who has Alicia’s talent and creativity was just not doing it for me. It sounded like she was trying to expound upon the sound of her last album, but she went about it in a way that was boring, not fresh, and uninspired. This song, along with about two or three others, were the album’s saving grace.

The song, which features subtle singing from Drake, is reminiscent of Alicia’s older, more neo-soul influenced music. It’s smoldering and sultry. The video is pretty cool. I like the approach she takes by making the obstacle in the relationship a conflict of racism. The video, directed by Jake Nava (Beyoncé, Shakira) begins in the segregated 1950s, and continues to time travel through this “unthinkable” interracial attraction between Alicia and Chad Michael Murray, shedding a light on intolerance. Alicia, a product of an interracial relationship, does it beautifully.

mo’nique’s brother admits to: sexual abuse!

April 20, 2010

After decades, Mo’Nique’s brother, Gerald Imes, took to the Oprah Winfrey Show to acknowledge and apologize to his sister (who was not there) for molesting her as a child. He also reveals that he was sexually assaulted as well. This comes after Mo’Nique recently opened up about being sexually abused by her brother, and their estranged relationship.

Now, I don’t know their lives, but from the outside looking in, I think it’s commendable that he is finally owning up to his mistakes, and hopefully he genuinely wants to change and mend his relationship with his sister, and maybe this will inspire people going through similar situations.

has gaga gone: too far?

March 15, 2010

So, this lady is tripping out about Lady Gaga and (Honey Bey)oncé’s new video for Telephone. She says it’s poison and she doesn’t think anybody should watch videos with that kind of imagery. She is not here for the panties, the lesbian innuendo, or the mass murder. As the anchor noted, this is all very similar to the backlash Madonna received in the early 90s for her SEX book and some of her music videos. I don’t really think it’s as big as that controversy was, but apparently some people are not pleased.

As a skeptic of everything and a slight conspiracy theorist, I am starting to question what messages we’re being sent in today’s pop culture. I love pop culture, but I am beginning to wonder what it is we’re being force fed and what the unknown consequences are or will be. So in that sense I am a little weary of this video (and a lot of others). But… I think this lady is just a prude. She does not like the lesbian kiss and does not want her children seeing stuff like that. I could see if she didn’t like it because it was an unnecessary exploitation of lesbianism used purely for shock value (because that’s what I think), but I think she’s just a little homophobic. She also does not like the massacre at the end.

I’m not one for censorship, so I don’t think the video should be banned from MTV. I think anybody should be able to watch what they want to watch for the most part. I just know that I am a lot more conscious of the music and the imagery I let myself become entranced by. What are your opinions, I’d love to know!

corey haim is: dead!

March 10, 2010

The death of 38-year-old actor Corey Haim by an alleged prescription drug overdose has cast renewed light on the question of whether an addict can truly “recover” — particularly in light of accounts, including his Haim’s, that he had cleaned up his life.

Corey Haim and Corey Feldman address drug addiction in young celebrities.

Haim was taken from his mother’s North Hollywood home by ambulance to Burbank’s Providence St. Joseph Medical Center early this morning, where he died at about 3:40 a.m. PT, according to police Sgt. Frank Albarran.

Haim struggled with cocaine and Valium addiction and reportedly was admitted to rehab more than 15 times.

This is sad. Addiction is a horrible disease. There are so many celebrities that look like they could follow in his, and Britney Murphy’s, and Anna Nicole’s footsteps.

b.o.b: nothin’ on you!

March 10, 2010

This song came on at this party I went to uptown a few weekends ago, and it sounded interesting. That night I came home and listened to it, but I wasn’t feeling it very much. Now I’m watching the video, and I think the song is decent again. I don’t know. I like the song with the singer Bruno Mars. It’s just the rapper, B.o.B, himself. I don’t really like his flow. Maybe I’ll get used to it.

That said, the video’s simple but it’s nice. It’s giving me Springtime in the city, which is actually coming to fruition outside! I really like how he has girls in the video of all shades and skin tones. He’s representing ALL types of beauty, which is a welcome change and something I am a fan of.

free my uncle: dmx!

March 10, 2010

Don’t do drugs, kids! DMX has been arrested again. Oh, Earl… I can’t deal with this. He shouldn’t be in jail, he should be barking on somebody’s song! Why can’t these people just keep making music, and stay off the streets? I’m crying! That’s it, I don’t know your life, but I’m going to break him out. Who’s ridin’ wit me?!

DMX was arrested earlier today in Arizona — and now his lawyer is reaching out to the one man who he believes can save him … Dr. Drew Pinsky.

The details of the arrest are unclear — but the rapper’s lawyer Gary Jenkins tells us “He’s been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment.”

Jenkins also tells us, “We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him.”

rita’s ice opened in: new york city!

February 28, 2010

So, as you can see, I am glowing. Something has ignited a joy deep inside my soul that is radiating for the whole island of Manhattan to see. If you’re curious to know what has got my panties in a bunch, look no further! It’s Rita’s Ice!

Rita’s Ice has just opened it’s first store in New York City. In the Upper West Side to be exact. Even greater, this store will be a year round store, as opposed to one that’s only open in the summertime. You don’t understand how excited I am. I lived off of Rita’s Ice and Wawa this past summer (if they built a Wawa here, I would just be done with life).

For those who have not experienced the heavenly lusciousness of Rita’s Italian Ice in your mouth, just split a taxi with me to Broadway between 92nd and 93rd, and I’ll introduce you to the best stuff on earth.

I’m so excited.
