christina aguilera: something’s got a hold on me!

August 12, 2010

This scene from the upcoming movie Burlseque has been previewed. As if I weren’t going crazy for this movie already, this scene gave me life. Christina Aguilera‘s character Ali Rose closes shop and belts out an Etta James classic Something’s Got a Hold on Me. With a voice like that, she’ll always be my favorite singer. I’m so anxious to go see this movie over and over again in theatres, with Xtina and Cher‘s big voices blaring from the big screen.

i’m not: dead!

August 8, 2010

In the words of my favorite metaphorical lesbian, “I’m not dead, just floating”… It’s Pink. Look it up.

I’m not dead, and neither this blog. I’ve just been trying to figure out which direction this is going to go. If I’m going to blog, it has to come from my heart and mean something to me. I love pop culture as much as the next Nick, but I don’t want my blog to get lost in being another celeb gossip site. It’s not that important to me.

Being unemployed this summer has given me a lot of time to myself to think and reflect. I’m going through a mental journey, trying to discover and understand myself a little better. My medium lately has been astrology, plus any other spiritual/metaphysical/mystical studies. Normally, I’m a little skeptical of such things, but the things I read about my sign and other people’s signs are so eerily accurate. The more I learn, the more I want to know. And of course, like a true Scorpio, I become obsessed until it’s time to move on to the next phase of my life.

Scorpios are all about feelings, passion, control, mystery, and transformation. I think those traits combined are what make me want to blog. Being so secretive and having such intense emotions is not always a good combination. This is the place that allows me to express myself in a way I can control. I can say as little or as much as I want about anything I find interesting or not interesting.

I ask myself sometimes why I do this? Out of everyone that has a blog, what makes mine any different or any better? I’m not trying to be a Perez Hilton. I’m not trying to act as if my opinion is law. I’m not trying to judge pop culture icons or play God. I want to share with the world what makes me who I am. What I love and hate, and why. Whether or not any of you care, I know that is the only thing that will make my blog 100% unique. More importantly, getting stuff from out of my head and onto this blog helps me understand myself. My head gets a little overcrowded with thoughts and feelings, and blogging is an outlet for me. It took me a while this summer to come to that conclusion and now I can start blogging again.

With that said, Nicks are still for Kids!

lil boosie indicted for: murder!

June 17, 2010

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie was indicted on a first-degree murder charge by a grand jury Thursday (June 17), stemming from an incident in October that left one man dead.

Two other men, Michael Louding and Adrian Pittman, were also indicted on similar charges, according to Louisiana CBS News affiliate WAFB. The Trill Entertainment rapper and his associates were indicted for multiple drug-possession charges as well.

Police records say Boosie and the two men fired shots into the home of Terry Boyd, then 35. The rapper allegedly was in possession of ecstasy, codeine and marijuana. All three men were charged with conspiracy for their part in the act, police say. A district attorney said the death penalty was not out of the question.

queen latifah comments on: her sexuality!

June 17, 2010

When asked about her much questioned sexuality, Queen Latifah had this to say:

“I don’t have to explain anything. I don’t have to confirm anything. Look, I need my time. I need my life. You know, I was looking at something the other day. A magazine with Jennifer Aniston on the cover. That’s a strong woman right there. All of these people in her business-who is she dating? Angie this. Brad that. They come up with so much stuff. That’s a tough situation to be in.

“My situation is small compared to that. But still, I don’t feel like I need to explain. I’m the one living it. You write about it. You go ahead and speculate. I’ll just live it. I don’t feel like I need to explain things to a perfect stranger. The people who matter know. And they love me for Dana. I don’t have to tell Joe Blow. Joe, you worry about who YOU sleeping with.” – Queen Latifah, speaking to Upscale Magazine.

I agree. Nothing about your personal life is anybody’s business unless you CHOOSE to share it with them. She has every right not to comment. By her evading the question all the time, it’s kind of obvious what the answer to the big question is, but really… who cares? We’re not paying her bills, and she’s not paying ours. It really doesn’t matter. It’s fun to gossip about celebrity scandals now and then. I do it (obviously), but I know in the end it doesn’t make a real difference in my life, so I don’t get so wrapped up in knowing every detail about their lives. That said, i respect her for keeping her love life private.

cop punches 17 year old girl: in the face!

June 16, 2010

This upset me so much! I really don’t know what is going on. I read the cop was going to arrest the girl for jaywalking, and then the other girl stepped in and got punched. If that’s the case, the girls shouldn’t have been resisting arrest (even though being arrested for jaywalking is stupid), and the one girl should not have jumped in. BUT, the officer should definitely not have handled those girls like that, and he especially should not have punched the underage girl in the face like she was a grown man who robbed a bank. Crazy. Like I said, I don’t really know exactly what was going on, but it’s just not cool in any regard. What do you think about this? Leave a comment with your opinion. I think both the girls and the officer need to be reprimanded.

drake feels used by: rihanna!

June 10, 2010

In an upcoming New York Times profile, Drake reveals that all that fun wasn’t innocent puppy kisses and he was really just a pawn for Rihanna’s feminine agency. “She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he told the paper. “I was like, ‘Wow, this feels terrible.'” He put all that terrible feeling into “Fireworks” off his upcoming album Thank Me Later (which drops next Tuesday), where he raps “I could tell it wasn’t love / I just thought you’d f—ed with me” among other bummer lines. Who knew that a fling between two young, talented, attractive people could fail? Love is a battlefield, man.

I didn’t know Drake and Rihanna had a thing! That’s news to me. And speaking of his new album, I enjoyed a few of the songs. Fireworks, the one mentioned in the article, will be on my July playlist.

chace crawford caught with: weed!

June 4, 2010

Chace Crawford from “Gossip Girl” was arrested in Plano, Texas for possession of marijuana … cops confirm to TMZ.

We’re told Crawford has bonded out of jail.

Crawford was arrested just after midnight this morning for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces.  The charge is a misdemeanor.

Chace Crawford and his friend were caught with an unlit joint! He should have lit it and smoked it sooner! Oh, well. I’m not judging. This just makes him seem more human to me, and less like a mannequin. Speaking of mannequins, let’s talk about how much face he is giving in his mugshot. I bet Tyra will put this in the Top Model apartment next cycle as guide on how to correctly and efficiently Smize.

rue mcclanahan: died!

June 3, 2010

Golden Girl Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76.

“She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. “She had a massive stroke.”

McClanahan, who played man-happy Blanche Devereaux on the still-popular ’80s sitcom Golden Girls, had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. Lawrence also said that at the time of her death Thursday, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.”

All these celebrities keep dying. How sad! I loved her on Golden Girls. That accent killed me. Now there’s only one Golden Girl left, who happens to be the hugely popular Betty White. Anyway, it’s good to know that Rue McClanahan died with her family, peacefully.

gary coleman: died!

May 28, 2010

Gary Coleman, the child star of the TV sitcom Diff’rent Strokes, died Friday after suffering an intercranial hemorrhage. He was 42.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank says life support was terminated and Coleman died at 12:05 p.m.

Coleman was hospitalized Wednesday after falling and suffering a head injury at his home south of Salt Lake City, according to family members.

Despite fame and success, Gary Coleman‘s life seemed full of drama and turmoil. I hope he’s finally resting in peace. His rodeo cowboy hat in that picture is giving me so much life, by the way.

alicia keys is: engaged and pregnant!

May 28, 2010

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are engaged and expecting, People reports.

This is the first marriage

and child for Grammy winner Keys, 29. Swizz Beatz, 31, has two other children from previous relationships. The couple have been together since 2008.

Throwing traditional values out of the window, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are engaged and expecting their first child! A little backwards by some people’s standards, but who are we to judge? I guess that’s be expected considering the controversial history of this relationship. But anyway, congratulations!

Who am I kidding, I am judging this situation so much.  I’m trying not to because baby is a beautiful thing and nobody has the right to judge anyone else. And I’m not referring to premarital sex! I don’t think I’ll ever look at this couple, regardless of who was wrong in the Swizz Beatz/Mashonda marriage, without judging. I hate to be like that, but in the words of Whitney Houston: it’s not right, but it’s okay.

On the bright side, maybe Alicia will take a break and let this era of her career die. I love her music so much, but with the exception of a few songs, I was not feeling her latest album. I felt like it was uninspired and boring. Let me end on a good note, and wish her the best of luck with her new family, and I hope she comes back hard with great music after the baby.
